Tower Engineering Professionals Bolsters Service Offering with Acquisition of Utilis Engineering – December 21, 2018

Tower Engineering Professionals (“TEP”), with support from Prairie Capital, has acquired Utilis Engineering, (“Utilis”), thereby strengthening TEP’s industry-leading position in telecom engineering, maintenance and inspection services by adding Utilis’ expertise in fiber and small-cell projects.  The TEP and Utilis combination provides for a natural business and cultural fit given the existing relationship between the two companies and crossover between their customer bases.

The acquisition of Utilis provides TEP with an opportunity to accelerate its service line expansion into the fiber optic engineering & services market, which is rapidly growing though significant investment by carriers, tower owners, internet service providers, local exchange carriers, government, and other private enterprises.  Andy Haldane, TEP’s CEO stated, “We are very excited about the acquisition of Utilis.  Seth and Matt have created a great company with an awesome culture and we welcome the entire Utilis team to TEP.”

This highly strategic acquisition expands TEP’s capabilities to become a more turnkey service provider to its customers, broadens the platform’s channel reach, and offers meaningful cross-selling opportunities between both businesses.  Utilis and its employees benefit from the national scale of TEP, its multiple offices and licenses in every state.  Additionally, the acquisition allows for the sharing of resources and best practices between the two companies to make for a more powerful and focused platform to better meet the needs of telecom customers, governmental agencies, and owners of private fiber networks.

TEP is a national telecom engineering services firm with over 500 employees and offices in Raleigh, NC; Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ; Charlotte, NC; Seattle, WA; Dallas, TX; Houston, TX; Tampa, FL; Indianapolis, IN; Nashville, TN; Portland, OR; Laurel, MD; Atlanta, GA and Rockaway, NJ.

Headquarted in Charlotte, NC, Utilis, offers telecom engineering and integration services throughout the US with local presence in Charlotte, NC; Raleigh, NC; Nashville, TN; Port St Lucie, FL; Dallas, TX and San Antonio, TX.  Rapidly expanding its service territory along with service offerings allowed Utilis to grow from a small engineering shop to over 75 employees.  “TEP’s culture, geography and service offerings made them a natural fit for Utilis.  The convergence of wireline and wireless demands throughout the industry offered an opportunity for two great companies to come together and both continue their missions.” – Seth Harrelson, Utilis President
